What is Prompt Engineering?

hi guys and welcome to the voice of AI
my name's Chris Plante what is prompt
engineering
that's the question so today's topic is
an introduction to the highly
interesting and popular new key role in
business and that is prompt engineering
prompt engineering is the process of
Designing and optimizing prompts for AI
models to generate desired outputs it's
a crucial step in the development of AI
models that can perform specific tasks
accurately and ethically
to generate an accurate summary the
model needs a well-designed prompt that
instructs it to identify the key points
and summarize them in a concise manner
without a well-designed prompt the model
May generate a summary that is
irrelevant or inaccurate
so let's make a very simple quick
example of a classic prompt right now
okay
okay so what we're going to do is use an
example today for summarization so
summarization prompt so what I've done
here is this will help us generate a
summary from an article so I found an
article here and I'm going to copy the
text out here okay and I'm going to
paste that
into my openai playground here we go I'm
just going to check it in case there's
any
ads
that we'll copy there's one there okay
and that's fine okay super first of all
so what I would like to do is summarize
uh this article so the First Command I'm
going to do obviously is to Simply put
that in itself here to summarize this
news article and let's have a look so
usually I would expect it to summarize
it to around eight to ten lines
something like that which is which is
great so it's a real quick read
okay so here's the news article it looks
pretty good to me this is the
summarization here and what I'm going to
do now is I'm just going to check the
word count of the text so let's just
copy the text there and just put it in
my word counter here and have a quick
look okay so that's 965 words so
um you can summarize that to exactly the
right number of words you like you could
say to 300 words for instance and then
you can make a summary of 300 words you
could say 50 words for instance or
whatever you'd like to do here as well
which is quite useful especially if
you're making a Blog
something like that okay so here's the
50 word uh summary again so it's pretty
nice now I do like to use bullet points
as well to capture a lot of the
information which is
um something that's quite useful so
let's take away the last answer there
and let's do
the next one which is to use the bullet
points to capture the most important
text okay so that's important to do take
away that
okay and now we're going to summarize
with bullets which which I much prefer
because it is a sort of power reader I
like to go through that very quickly so
you see here AI tools like chat GPT have
the potential to boost productivity
um AI is a general purpose technology
that can boost productivity again
economic impact and we've got concerns
and we've got the impact so that's all
pretty interesting stuff and very good
that we have now are submarine you've
seen that we can use bullets okay now
what I'd like to do as well is change
the
um input again now so I want to say that
you're now a professional AI expert so I
like to give
um the charity BT its profession so it
knows it's an expert on any particular
subject and this particular one is an AI
expert so I would also like to provide
bullets on that as well for quick
reading all chat on GPT have the
potential to boost productivity AI is a
general purpose technology the economic
Revolution fine tuning AI related
investment so that's pretty good okay so
that's a really nice summary with bullet
points there as an AI expert but now
what I'd like to do is I'd like to get a
good counter response which is what on
why AI is good for helping society and
improving our daily life so now as a
university Professor with a doctorate
let's see what response I get here too
and this should be a lot more positive
okay you can see that as a professor of
AI I'm excited about the potential
benefits that AI can bring to our
society okay this is really interesting
and of course what you can do is don't
forget you can put in here as well
things like
uh you know the tone if you'd like it to
be funny or you'd like it to be serious
very formal you can put any tone in
there that you would like as well but
this looks really good I like that
that's a really good uh positive
feedback Okay so we've got a really good
feedback there as well so that's exactly
how to make a new summary and then to
play with that afterwards and create
your summaries or your bullets whichever
you'd like to do by designing prompts
that consider ethical and social
implications AI models can be trained to
generate outputs that are fair and
unbiased
prompt engineering is a critical step in
the development of AI models that can
perform specific tasks accurately but
also ethically
learning prompt engineering is also
vital in AI so this is why I'm making a
series of videos with prompt examples
similar to the news article summary I
just gave you today
