Every help desk vendor says it “has AI” now. What that means in practice varies a lot, and the difference usually shows up on the pricing page, not the feature list. Zoho Desk is a useful case study: its AI is real and reasonably capable, but which parts of it you get depends entirely on which of four paid tiers you’re on.
LiveAgent is our product; this comparison covers it alongside Zoho Desk’s own published pricing.
How does Zoho Desk gate its AI features?
Zoho Desk’s AI ships in layers, and each layer sits behind a higher tier. Per Zoho’s own pricing page :
- Free: no AI features.
- Express ($7/agent/month, billed annually): AI Agents you build yourself, bringing your own OpenAI or DeepSeek API key, plus generative AI features like sentiment analysis and ticket summarization.
- Standard ($14/agent/month): adds an Answer Bot, an AI reply assistant that draws on your knowledge base articles.
- Professional ($23/agent/month): adds full Zia AI, described as “built-in AI-powered generative, predictive, and analytical capabilities.”
- Enterprise ($40/agent/month): includes everything in Professional, plus Guided Conversations, a low-code flow builder. This is a workflow feature, not an AI capability.
The practical takeaway: if a Zoho Desk sales conversation mentions Zia AI, confirm which tier that quote is based on. The name is used loosely; the full capability is Professional and up.

How does LiveAgent’s AI pricing compare?
LiveAgent’s AI Agents, the AI Chatbot and Answer Assistant, are included starting on the entry plan, with full setup from Medium up:
- Small ($15/agent/month): AI Agents included.
- Medium ($29/agent/month): AI Agents with full setup included, plus call center and IVR.
- Large ($49/agent/month): everything in Medium, at higher usage limits.
- Enterprise ($69/agent/month): everything in Large, with enterprise-scale limits and support.
There’s no separate “AI tier” to reach. The AI Agent runs on FlowHunt , and usage above the included free allowance is billed in credits, roughly $1 per 100 flow interactions, rather than gated behind a seat-price jump.
How does AI compare tier by tier?
| Entry AI | Mid-tier AI | Full AI suite | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zoho Desk | BYOK generative AI ($7/agent) | AI reply bot ($14/agent) | Zia AI, full suite ($23/agent) |
| LiveAgent | AI Chatbot + Answer Assistant ($15/agent) | Same, full setup ($29/agent) | Same, higher limits ($49 to $69/agent) |
Zoho Desk technically offers some AI at a lower entry price ($7 vs $15), but that entry tier requires you to bring your own LLM API key and configure it yourself. LiveAgent’s $15 tier includes a working AI Chatbot out of the box. If you want Zoho’s equivalent of a ready-to-use AI suite, Professional at $23/agent is the fairer comparison point, roughly 53% above LiveAgent’s entry price.
What does Zia AI actually do?
Zia AI’s stated capabilities span three areas: generative (drafting replies, summarizing threads), predictive (anticipating ticket volume or escalation risk), and analytical (surfacing patterns across support data). That’s a broader scope than a single chatbot; Zoho is positioning Zia as an operations layer, not just a customer-facing bot.
LiveAgent’s AI Agents focus more narrowly on the conversation itself: answering common questions, escalating to a human when a request needs judgment, and improving suggested replies over time through the same AI Chatbot feature. It’s a tighter scope, and it’s included at every tier rather than added as you move up.
Which matters more depends on team size. A larger operation juggling volume forecasting and cross-ticket analytics gets more out of Zia’s broader remit. A smaller team mainly trying to keep response times down gets there faster and cheaper with LiveAgent.
What don’t Zoho and LiveAgent tell you about AI?
Here’s the gap that matters more than either pricing page. Neither Zoho nor LiveAgent publishes what percentage of tickets its AI resolves without a human stepping in. Both describe what the software can do; neither publishes a number for what it does do at scale.
That’s not unusual in the category, but it means “has AI” and “has Zia AI” are marketing claims until you test them against your own ticket volume. Before committing to either platform on the strength of its AI, run a trial against a real sample of your support queue and measure the deflection rate yourself. Gartner’s own 2026 forecast on this: cost per AI resolution is rising, not falling, as use cases get more complex (Gartner, January 2026 ), so the seat price is only half the real cost picture on either platform.
Which one fits your team?
Pick Zoho Desk if: you need predictive and analytical AI beyond conversation handling, you’re already budgeting for Professional or Enterprise regardless of AI, and you have the technical resources to configure a BYOK setup if you start on a lower tier.
Pick LiveAgent if: you want working conversational AI without climbing a pricing tier to reach it, you’re a smaller team where $15 to $29/agent matters more than deep predictive analytics, or you’re currently evaluating a Zoho Desk alternative on cost and want AI included rather than added.
If you’re already on Zoho Desk and considering a switch, migrating to LiveAgent comes with free data transfer and no setup fees. Try the AI Chatbot on a free 30-day trial and measure your own resolution rate before deciding.
