LiveAgent vs Intercom's Fin AI: the honest AI chatbot comparison for 2026

Published on Aug 21, 2026 by Lilia Savko.
AI Chatbot Intercom Comparison

If you’ve searched for the “best AI chatbot for customer support” recently, Intercom’s Fin AI has probably shown up near the top. That positioning is not an accident. Intercom spent 2026 restructuring its entire company around its AI agent, and the coverage followed. But “most talked about” and “best fit for your team” are two different questions, especially once you look past the headline resolution rates and into what the AI actually costs to run day to day.

This guide compares LiveAgent’s AI Answer Assistant and AI chatbot, both powered by FlowHunt, against Intercom’s Fin AI Agent on the things that actually decide a rollout: what the AI can do, how it’s priced, how fast you can launch it, and how much control you keep over it.

What changed at Intercom in 2026

Two things reshaped how Intercom is positioned this year, and both are worth knowing before you compare pricing pages.

First, the rebrand. In May 2026 Intercom renamed its parent company to Fin, after its AI agent. The help desk you’d actually log into is still called Intercom, but the corporate identity, and increasingly the marketing, now centers on the AI agent rather than the support platform underneath it.

Second, the acquisition. In June 2026, Salesforce agreed to acquire Fin for roughly $3.6 billion, folding its agent technology into Salesforce’s Agentforce platform. The deal doesn’t change today’s pricing, but it’s a real variable if you’re picking a platform to build on for the next few years, since product direction and roadmap priorities under new ownership are still unknown.

On performance, Intercom’s marketing cites resolution rates as high as 76 percent, while independently reported customer case studies put real-world Fin resolution rates closer to 42 to 50 percent. That gap matters when you’re forecasting cost, since Fin bills per resolved outcome.

How LiveAgent’s AI actually works

LiveAgent’s AI features run on two tools, both powered by FlowHunt, Quality Unit’s own no-code AI automation platform (FlowHunt and LiveAgent are sister products, so the integration is native rather than bolted on).

AI Answer Assistant drafts and improves ticket replies for your agents. It reads the incoming ticket, generates a relevant response, and lets the agent pick a tone (casual, neutral, or business) before sending. A custom prompt option also lets you write your own instructions for how a reply should be rewritten, rather than relying on fixed presets.

AI chatbot sits on your chat widget and answers customer questions using your own knowledge base, help center, and website content as its source of truth. Because it’s grounded in retrieval-augmented generation rather than a general model guessing, it’s built to say “I don’t know” instead of improvising, and to hand off to a human agent the moment a question falls outside what it can confidently answer. In LiveAgent’s own deployment, this setup reached 75 percent chat automation while keeping human handoff seamless, since agents receive the full conversation history on transfer instead of asking the customer to repeat themselves.

Because FlowHunt is a full no-code automation builder, not just a chat widget, the same AI agent can also look up order status, check a CRM record, or trigger a workflow, not only answer FAQs.

Pricing: the part most comparisons skip

This is where the two approaches diverge the most.

Intercom’s Fin AI is billed per outcome, roughly $0.99 per resolution, plus seat fees that range from $29 to $139 per agent per month depending on plan. If you route Fin through a non-Intercom help desk, a 50-outcome monthly minimum applies. Copilot, the agent-assist add-on, is priced separately again. The result is a bill that’s genuinely difficult to forecast in advance, since it scales with ticket volume in a way a fixed seat price doesn’t.

LiveAgent’s AI works differently. LiveAgent itself has no separate AI license fee. Plans run $15 (Small), $29 (Medium), $49 (Large), and $69 (Enterprise) per agent per month billed annually, with AI Agents included and fully set up on paid plans. FlowHunt, the AI engine underneath, uses a credit system instead of a per-resolution charge: each account starts with a free credit allowance, and further usage is pay-as-you-go, with one credit covering roughly 100 flow interactions. There’s no flat AI tax on your seat price and no per-outcome multiplier, so a support team can estimate its AI cost from actual usage rather than guessing at outcome rates months in advance.

For a small or mid-sized support team, that difference alone can be the gap between an AI rollout that’s predictable and one that isn’t.

Setup speed and control

Fin is designed to plug into an existing help desk (Salesforce, Freshworks, Zendesk, and others) or run inside Intercom’s own suite, and Intercom advertises setup in under an hour.

LiveAgent’s AI setup is handled the same way for customers on active LiveAgent and FlowHunt subscriptions: LiveAgent’s team does the full initial configuration of both the AI Answer Assistant and the AI chatbot at no extra cost, including connecting knowledge sources and building the underlying FlowHunt flow. Because FlowHunt is a visual, no-code builder, you also keep direct access to adjust the flow yourself afterward, without needing a developer or a support ticket to change how the AI responds.

When each one makes more sense

Fin is built for teams that want a single, heavily marketed AI agent spanning support, sales, and success, and that are comfortable with usage-based pricing and the uncertainty of a pending acquisition.

LiveAgent with FlowHunt is built for teams that want AI folded directly into an affordable help desk, with predictable seat pricing, transparent credit-based AI costs, and a chatbot and answer assistant that are grounded in your own knowledge base from day one, not a separate product with its own contract.

Current offer: LiveAgent is running 33% off (code SUMMER-33M for monthly, SUMMER-33Y for yearly) with free AI Agents setup through the FlowHunt partnership, through August 31, 2026.
