you say let's get to unboxing
[Music]
all right guys i'm going to speed up me
just cutting open the box because i
think we all know how to do that
right when i open the yaylink box the
first thing you're going to see is just
the user manual it'll go over all the
different parts and pieces
that we're going to go over in this
video underneath that
this is the phone itself and it is
stunningly beautiful
it's got a huge color lcd screen on it
it has 10
programmable buttons on the left and
right side of the screen
i absolutely love it and it is a
customizable or adjustable screen which
i just love the design j-link put into
this telephone
underneath of the phone i'm going to
pull everything out of the packaging
here
but we do have the handset we do have
the phone cord
that ties the handset to the phone
itself uh it does come with a six
foot ethernet cord or patch cable
we're not going to be using that today
because we are going to be connecting
this phone to wi-fi
but it is nice that they do include it
the one thing that i did have to
purchase separately
is the power cord uh it's an extra eight
bucks so you can go ahead and buy that
i will need that um in order to power up
the phone and connect it to wi-fi
hey i'm going to talk about some of the
ports on the back of the phone so you
know what they're for
i'm going to start on the left side of
the phone we're not going to be using
either of these
ethernet ports or rj45 ports today
because we are connecting the phone via
wi-fi but do know that these are
available
so the one on the left goes from the
phone to a computer
if you're planning on using the phone
for a switch
and the one on the on the right the
ethernet port on the right
that is what you would use to connect
the phone to your network with a
hardwired connection
it does come again with the six foot
ethernet cord so keep that in mind if
you need
a longer ethernet cord for a hardwired
connection
you can go ahead and buy that on amazon
or you can buy that at best buy or
anywhere you get your technology
gadgets but again if you're planning on
using this for wi-fi
you won't need either of these just to
the right of these ethernet ports we do
have
uh the slot for your power cord i will
be using this one today
so basically you just plug in the power
cord on one side
and then you plug the other end into the
wall to boot up the phone
if you look off to the right hand side
uh these are
rj9 ports these are what you're going to
be using for
some headsets can use an rj9 and the
handset
the only one we're going to be using
today is the bottom one
which is designated for your handset do
not plug your handset into the top one
make sure to plug it into the bottom one
in order for the phone to work correctly
so plug it in
and go ahead and boot up the phone
the last port that i'm going to go over
is this one right on the back of the
screen this is a
usb port that i'm absolutely in love
with it has three main uses
the first you can actually plug a usb
headset
right into the back of the phone here
and it will work with the headset button
on the front of the phone
the second thing you can use this for is
just to charge up your cell phone
just plug in your usb plug in your cell
phone and it will
give you a charge the third way you can
use this is for
call recording when you're on a call
there will be a soft key at the bottom
of the screen
that says record you can actually hit
that button and it will record
automatically to your thumb drive
take the thumb drive out plug it into
your computer you can save these
recordings anywhere you want
really cool functionality uh from yay
link on the usb
drive big fan here
all right guys putting up a quick
picture of
all the parts that we pulled out of the
box just so you can kind of see
everything in a holistic view
here are all the labels of what
everything is
all right and let's go ahead and let's
put this phone together
first thing we're going to do is we're
gonna take the phone cord and we're
gonna plug that handset into
the phone so notice on the uh
phone cord on the coiled cord there are
there's two sides and they are not
exactly the same one has a longer piece
one has a shorter piece
the shorter piece is meant to go into
the handset because the longer piece
goes in the back of the phone and
there's a nice groove there
to put the cord into so that the phone
hangs off on the side
then it doesn't get stuck underneath the
phone making it wobble
it is a nice design piece so take the
time to plug in the
longer side into the back of the phone
the shorter side into the handset
again the handset does get plugged into
the bottom
and then i'm just going to fast forward
here the kickstand is really easy to
install you just push it in and slide it
in to lock in place there's only one
option because it does have an
adjustable screen
so you do only have one option on this
phone for the kickstand
i'm pointing to a couple different ports
and last but not least you got your
power cord
it's as easy as that once you plug it
into the wall i'll show you what happens
all right so once i booted it up it did
come to the screen and i did have to go
ahead and press cancel in the bottom
left-hand corner
so again once it boots up to the home
screen it doesn't necessarily mean it's
a functioning phone you do have to go
ahead
and connect this to a voip provider so
we're using hosted solutions again that
is who is sponsoring the video
and what they did is all they i gave to
them
was the mac address of the phone they
were able to put this on provisioning
servers
so once i get this connected to internet
it should boot up and connect to them
right away
extensions uh speed dials everything
alright so let's connect it to wi-fi
once i get to the home screen
the first thing i do is i click the menu
button in the bottom right hand corner
i then go over to uh basic settings
and then from this list i scroll down
until i see
wi-fi uh i got to go ahead and enable it
and then in the bottom right hand corner
i got to click save
i'm going to wait a few moments
and then you will see that it does see
an option to connect to so i'm going to
go ahead and open that
and here we go i do see nacho wifi that
is me that is my home network
so i'm going to go ahead and select that
and then i type in my password this is
my
wi-fi password i will show you that
there are
four different options here you do have
to type it in with a phone which isn't
the easiest
but make sure that you're choosing which
option
if you are doing a capital letter start
here
if you're doing a lower case letter
navigate it over to here
and if you're doing a number navigate it
over to here
it's going to take you a little bit of
time to figure out but
it just is what it is you have to do
this one time and you should be solid
all right i got my password typed in and
you see that
we are now connected to my wi-fi if i
just sit tight and hang on
i would say about 20 seconds it goes
ahead and it reboots automatically
during this first ever reboot it should
take
about seven minutes for my phone to
download all of the firmware and files
from hosted solutions to boot up the
phone
and check that out we got an extension
we have some speed dials and we have
some parking lots right there
those are all of my best friends i'm not
that popular
but my wife my mom my dad they love me a
lot
all right let's go ahead and do the same
thing for bluetooth
for my bluetooth headset i am using a
plantronics 5200
uh it's really easy to pair so let's go
ahead and do it
on the phone itself again you're gonna
go to menu you're gonna go to basic
settings
and this time you're gonna scroll down
to until you see bluetooth
go ahead and select bluetooth just like
wi-fi you have to enable it
and then you go and you scan for devices
on my bluetooth headset
you do have to hold down this button on
the back
right here
oh it's talking because it's on so you
have to hold down this button on the
back that isn't
that visible but on any bluetooth device
that you are trying to connect
just go ahead and google it or read the
manual to
see how to pair your device but once i
hold that down i hear it in my ear
audibly
pairing
and look there it is right there on the
telephone so now i can select it
and we're paired
so now if i want to make and receive
calls over headset
i just have to make sure this headset
button on the front is illuminated
and then i can dial calls or pick up
calls and it should go directly to my
bluetooth headset
all right and let's go ahead might as
well just talk about some of these
buttons right here on the front since
there are
quite a few of them uh starting on the
left hand side we do have our navigation
arrows that helps us get around
the ok button is the select button you
can use that in
any time you're trying to select an
option that's highlighted on the screen
right below that at the bottom you will
see these are the volume controls if you
are not on a call
it will control the ring on the device
and if you are on a call it will control
the audio
so that you can hear the person louder
or
soften that audio going in
i'm not going to explain the buttons in
the middle they're pretty
self-explanatory
the one through the or i'm sorry the
zero through nine
with the star impound i'm sure you guys
know how to use those and then off on to
the right hand side
it's a nice neat pile of features
so again you have your headset that's
how you're gonna access
either your usb headset your rj9 headset
or bluetooth headset
depending on what you have paired to the
phone
to the right of that you have a mute
button a mute button
allows you to hear the caller but they
can no longer hear you so it shuts off
the microphone
right below the headset button we have
the voicemail button
go ahead and hit that to access your
voicemail
to the right of the voicemail we have
the hold button
this is going to play any audio that you
choose
so it might play music and it might play
an advertisement that you have uploaded
to your
provider's system so if you are curious
about
how to do that work with your voice over
ip provider to help you out
right below the voicemail button you do
have
uh the redial i'm not going to go too in
depth with that i think we're all
familiar with
redial and to the right of the re-dial
we have the transfer button
these phones do have the ability to do
two different types of transferring
you can do what's called a warm transfer
or a cold transfer
i'm not going to go over that too in
depth here
but you can ask your provider for
details
and then right below that you do have
your speaker phone these phones do have
very good speaker phone i'm very
impressed i've never had a client
uh that has not liked their speakerphone
okay so here's my final two cents i
would say this is probably my number one
pick
for a home office setup the reason for
that being is most people
don't want to work right next to their
home
uh modems or routers so the fact that
you can
plug this thing anywhere in your home
and it works
as well as it does this is gonna be my
number one pick
for a home office uh for work
um i think it's actually a great phone i
think it's really slick that you have
the option of a wi-fi connection
or a hardwired connection but if you
know that you
have the ability to connect via hard
wire
i don't think it's necessary to get this
phone i think
you can spend less money on a t46 or
even a t41
if the color screen isn't important to
you those phones look really good in my
opinion
and still you get all the same bells and
whistles and functionality
but they don't have wi-fi so i
i would probably go that route if i was
getting this for my own office
but in the cases of like a kitchen or
even maybe a reception area that there's
not
a data connection available
um close to where you want the phone i
think that this phone
solves that issue uh pretty easily so
i would definitely use it at home in
kitchens
or anywhere there's not a hard wire
available
this phone final consensus i'm going to
give it a 9 out of 10
9.0 out of 10. there really wasn't any
reason to not give it a 10
but technology is always improving and
i'm leaving a little room
uh for the next great phone that comes
out so that that's why i'm giving it a
nine out of ten otherwise this thing is
as rock solid of a phone as i have ever
experienced over the last eight years
i love it alright guys if you want to
