hey guys it's prince rich with rich
technology group and in today's video
we're going to do an unboxing and review
of the poly edge b10 which is a new
entry-level iphone from poly but first
you're watching the number one channel
on all things business phone systems and
business internet service related videos
advice and just helpful information to
help you make the best buying decisions
maybe even save yourself a little money
along the way so be sure to hit that
subscribe button so that you don't miss
any new videos once they release okay so
for those of you who may or may not
remember we actually did recently a
review on the polyedge b20 which is the
slightly bigger brother to this phone
the polyedge b10 so to give you a tiny
back story the polyedge series is a
newer series the one thing that makes
the polyedge series different from all
of the other phones is it is strictly an
entry-level series but as always before
we open up this box and see what we've
got before i put it all together and do
a review big thanks to our friends over
at polycom for sending this phone over
to us and big thank you to the good old
boys and girls over at voip supply for
coordinating the shipping and the
logistics to get this over to us as well
okay so here is our poly quick start
guide looks like we've got a deeper
manual here which is in multi languages
here is your actual phone itself here's
your handset or receiver got a kickstand
in here as well cat5 cable which looks
to be either one meter or somewhere
around maybe like two feet got your
actual handset cord and boy oh boy is
this a pleasant surprise an actual ip
phone that comes with an actual power
adapter this is impressive okay so
looking at our box contents here for
everything that was in the box from left
to right you've got the poly quick start
guide here you've got what looks to be a
deeper instructional manual or something
like that which is in multiple languages
we've got our actual polyedge b10 desk
set you've got the actual handset here
that goes with the phone you've got the
actual cable to connect the actual
handset to the base phone you've got
your kickstand here which has the poly
logo on it's nice looking kickstand got
a cat5 cable that was included in the
box as well and then last but not least
the one thing that i was super excited
about was an actual power adapter
included in the box with the phone you
know this is actually an interesting
find because at this day and age most
iphones do not come with power adapters
sometimes when you get them through the
service providers they do but typically
when you get them through any third
party like a voip supply or an amazon or
something like that it never includes
the power adapter while the power
adapter is cheap it's actually nice to
see one of these in this box so let's go
ahead and put this thing together and
see how it looks before i jump into
technical specifications okay guys so
here we are with our polyedge b10 all
put together this is a good looking
phone i mean first impressions i
actually really like how it looks i love
the matte look i like the poly logo on
the handset and i really like the matte
look of the handset and the body itself
it just looks very modern compared to
some of the older polyphones like the
vvx series so at a glance i like it so
if you look closer it looks like this
phone at first appearance has two line
capability it's got your typical
function keys here as you can see that
basically signify the function that
you've got on the screen here it's got
your typical directional pad as poly
typically does and then you've got your
numeric keys and all that like you know
any other poly phone you've got your
home you've got your back button you've
got your numeric you've got your place a
call on hold you've got your call
transfer your volume up and down your
numeric pad your mute and things like
that such as speaker and also headset
capability let's go ahead and flip this
thing over and see what we have on the
back by way of interfaces okay so let me
tell you man this phone is a strange
animal so first of all now i know why
there was an ac adapter in the box which
is almost like a thing in the past with
most ip phones this phone does not
support poe i thought maybe there was
something wrong with it because as you
guys know if you've watched our previous
review videos we have a big poe switch
here in the studio and in my office and
when i plugged my poe cat5 cable into
this i got nothing and then i thought
wait a minute could this be a phone that
doesn't have poe and surely enough it is
which means this truly is an entry-level
phone so there you go with that
interface you've got your 5 volt ac
adapter port here you've got your actual
network port here which is where you
plug in the cable to get your internet
here you've got a pass-through so that
is one saving grace here it does have a
pass-through on it it does have a
headset jack which looks to be rj9 and
then of course this jack here is for our
handset here that's on the front
so you've got your key lock port there
here is an interface for i believe that
is an eight millimeter headset jack i've
had many of you over the years in the
comments on our youtube channel that
have said things like hey prince i dig
that a lot of these newer phones have
usb support for headsets and even
bluetooth but what do i do if i have
like a really cool you know eight
millimeter headset that i like that i've
been trying to use i noticed this isn't
the first of the polyedge b series that
i've seen that has this jack so for
those of you out there that have
headsets like this or you prefer
headsets that use this jack i guess this
is a great series for you okay so
jumping into the technical
specifications of the polyedge
b10ip phone this is definitely a two
line capable phone so you can do two
simultaneous calls on it and it says
enjoy super clear conversations and it
also says that it's easy plug and play
setup with smart business features this
phone promises to offer crisp audio and
yes it does support polys hd voice as
well as poly acoustic fence technology
while i did say that this phone has the
capability for two-line simultaneous
calls it does support eight line key
assignments supported with pagination so
that means that you can have up to eight
line capability using the menus and
using the actual virtual lines within
the phone this iphone supports a 2.8
inch monochrome lcd screen it has
voicemail support and it has an
adjustable desk stand it does support
wall mounting but the wall mount just
like most ip phones is not included
feature keys include four context
sensitive soft keys four-way navigation
volume control keys hold and back button
keys hold and transfer keys headset
select key speakerphone select key and
mute key headset compatibility
specifically is a 3.5 millimeter headset
port and it also says that it has a
dedicated rj9 headset port as well it
also supports hearing aid compatibility
and i'm glad to see that because it says
that it's hearing aid compatible for the
handset for magnetic coupling to hearing
aids now don't be fooled even though the
polyedge b10 is considered a super
entry-level phone this thing has a lot
of call handling features such as shared
call busy lamp field call waiting call
timer call transfer call hold call pick
up call resume miss call notifications
do not disturb intercom enhanced call
park caller id of course which can also
be disabled one touch speed dial call
return call forward on busy distinctive
incoming call treatment live five-way
audio conferencing so that's really nice
that it offers actual five-way audio
calls no answer or unconditional block
anonymous call repeat dialing and much
more the polyedge b10 also claims to
have advanced noise cancellation
features so for those of you who may be
using this in a call center or in an
environment where you've got other
people walking around or in cubicles
this may be a great phone for you
coupled with poly's hd voice as well as
their audio fencing and advanced noise
cancellation technology okay so pros and
cons let's jump into it so number one i
absolutely love the look and the build
of this phone it's such a modern looking
phone and i really like this matte look
and how things look on it in general the
other thing that i really like about
this is the ease of use i really like
how everything is kind of laid out
ergonomically and also expected where
you expect it to be like your volume
controls your place of call on hold your
transfer and things like that while i do
recommend that anybody who owns this
phone or any phone download what we call
the cheat sheet or is usually like the
most commonly used features of a phone
this pretty much has everything kind of
laid out the way that you would expect
press this for your headset press this
for speaker press this to mute press
this to go home if you're in the menu
press this for call and hold volume keys
and so on and so forth i like the fact
that everything is laid out sensibly and
where you would expect it to be and it
looks like users of all levels in a work
environment can use this finally the
other thing that i really like about
this phone is the price i think that for
somebody who they need something that's
got a lot of call handling features but
you don't want to spend a lot of money
maybe either because your budget is
tight or maybe it's because you have a
lot of users for example we've worked
with call centers and businesses that
have hundreds of users sometimes and so
while they've got money they don't want
to spend 300 400 on average for hundreds
of employees so they need something
that's going to be easier on the budget
for just a lot of people or maybe you
need phones in areas that are not like
essential like it's not for a ceo maybe
it's a break room phone or a lobby phone
or maybe it's for somebody who's a temp
or an intern and you just don't need
anything high level that's too expensive
but you want something that's got good
features this is a great phone for that
it's truly a good entry level phone that
doesn't sacrifice on features it just
kind of sacrifices on the build and some
things like power over ethernet and
stuff like that to get the price down
the final pro that i like about this
phone is the fact that it has the 3.5
millimeter headset jack while i don't
personally use a 3.5 millimeter headset
jack i come across a lot of users that
do and i've had a lot of you in the
comments on my youtube channel and in my
email asking me what phones out there
support older headsets or headsets that
you favor that have that because most ip
phones at the time of this video they
don't support the 3.5 millimeter jack
it's usually usb or bluetooth so this is
a great phone for that if you're
somebody who's looking for a phone that
supports those types of headsets okay so
cons let's hop into that what do i not
like about this phone first and foremost
i don't like that it doesn't have usb
support for a headset more and more
headsets these days are either one of
two options they're either usb or
they're either wireless so it looks like
this phone does not support connectivity
directly with a usb headset so that's
kind of a bummer it does not natively
support wireless based on anything that
i could find in poly's technical
specifications like bluetooth or
anything like that but that's not to say
that you probably can't get a dongle of
some sort to connect this phone and then
be able to enable wireless capability
now keep in mind it does have the rj9
jack while i don't personally own any
rj9 type headsets you know my team and i
consult with people all the time that
are looking for new phones and new
service that have existing rj9
compatible headsets from poly
plantronics jabra and other
manufacturers you name it so it still
has plenty of ways to connect a headset
to it it's just a little bit limited in
regards to what is the new standards at
the time of this video the other really
big con and it's probably the biggest
con for me about this phone is there is
no support for poe and the funny thing
about that is is you guys probably
noticed in this video hey prince doesn't
have this phone powered on like in most
of the shots or most of the talking
throughout this video and the reason
that is is because this entire studio as
well as my house is wired for poe now
that's not to say that i don't have
electrical outlets everywhere but i
don't have them everywhere in the studio
so it's not that i didn't want to power
the phone on during this video it's that
i quite literally could not because i
did not have any accessible electricity
to power the ac adapter into an
electrical outlet because everything i
have in here is just cat5 laid out
throughout the place for poe now the
phone's saving grace is the fact that it
includes the ac adapter so it's not like
you're gonna buy this phone and not be
able to power it on which would be the
case if you bought a lot of other phones
that are poe capable but don't include
the ac adapter so that is one saving
grace in regards to that con the final
con is that the pass through on this is
not gigabit it's 10 100. now to be fair
i don't think that really matters even
if you're in an environment that is
using say you know hundreds of these
phones in a call center or something
like that this isn't a video phone or
anything like that i mean this phone is
probably barely even using more than 200
kilobits or something like that to be
able to transmit data for phone calls
conference calls and things like that so
i mean the fact that this isn't a
gigabit capable phone i don't think it's
that big of a deal so the price for the
polyedge b10 goes for approximately 100
and i think you can even get it cheaper
sometimes through other sources but it's
basically a hundred dollar phone i mean
at the time of this video you guys with
the average iphone that we see
regardless of what provider somebody is
getting being at around i would say
somewhere in the realm of about 125 to
maybe even as high as 200 or more i
would say that's a pretty good price for
a hundred dollar phone in 2022 so as
always i'll have links in the
description below where you guys can not
only see the actual price from a couple
of sources on this phone but you can
also see more deeper technical
specifications and see if this phone
makes sense for your business if you
