Review of the Cisco 7942 telephone running the SIP protocol for setting up a PBX. Learn about its features, port connections, and power options using POE. Please note that it is no longer supported by Cisco.
The video is about setting up a PBX for technical support line. The narrator introduces a new Cisco IP phone running the SIP protocol instead of the skinny protocol. He explains the different ports and cables on the phone and shows how to power it up using a POE injector. He tests the phone by making a call. He also mentions that the phone is no longer supported by Cisco. The three main topics discussed in the video are: setting up a PBX, features of the Cisco IP phone, and how to power the phone using POE.
in the past two weeks i have been
setting up
a pbx for my technical support line
now as some people may know when you set
up a pbx
you don't just set up the pbx server
itself but you also set up
a sip phone and this is where this guy
comes in handy
so may i introduce you my new
cisco ip phone so this
is it this is the cisco ip phone
7942 which is currently running the sip
protocol
instead of a skinny protocol and
works great so without further ado
let's begin this video
all right so the cisco ip phone is uh i
got it off amazon for about 30 pounds
uh it's kind of running the sip protocol
as i installed it using uh the tftp
server
and honestly it works pretty well uh on
the back
um make sure this handset doesn't fall
off
we've got um an aux cable
cable over there to get the camera to
focus
okay i've got the orcs thing over there
switch port over here
uh pc port over there all of it an
ethernet form i guess
uh that's the dc 48v
uh power unit don't know what that's
called
um got the
handset port over there and the headset
pool over there
which is being used by this poor uh
could someone tell me what this is
in the comments please i'll be very very
grateful
uh and honestly
it runs pretty smooth for 30 pounds uh i
was honestly having a lot of issues with
this thing
before i set it up one thing if you
are looking to get support for this
thing from cisco themselves
i highly recommend you don't buy this
thing because it's end of life
is actually in 2016. but i kind of went
with the risk
um and honestly it did still work i was
over
the moon when i got it to work because
of how you know unreliable
it can be sometimes but it did work
and um another device i have used for
this
i might make a review on this very soon
um
is this a poe injector here uh
because it's an iphone you don't
actually have to use a power supply
to power it instead you can use power
over ethernet
to power it through the ethernet port
giving it internet
and power through the exact same port
which is very
very very handy especially when you've
got a system like mine where you've got
10 000 wires running
all across the room now let's power this
thing up
so obviously i'm going to be using my
poe injector here and i'm just going to
plug it in
using this um
using the uh switch port here
and there you go you can see it's now
building up it's doing all this jiggly
dude
quite by the way from another youtuber
you know who you are if you're watching
this
and
pretty nice phone can be honest with you
it's manufactured in 2007
which is obvious because you can tell
it's still got a really old display
it's not even like it's not an led i
think it's like a different type of
display someone had to tell me because
i'm not that good with hardware
when it comes to this sort of thing um
but
all i know is that it's not a proper
display like you would get on a computer
screen or something like that
but think of it as more like a
calculator screen you know
how has its contrast sort of thing and
all that
um but i will now show you how it works
um
live so what i'll do i'm just going to
log into my zip phone
on my smartphone over here
and i'm going to call up the extension
of the phone which
is 2001. so if i get this to focus
and this works just right we dial it and
and we answer it
hello hello this is test one two three
two three
check check check as you can see it
works pretty well
and now we're going to dial it back as
in we're going to dial
the extension for this phone here
which is 0.704

say hi to youtube my my friend hey
what's going on guys uh wrong video
bye-bye
yeah that's uh do subscribe to his
youtube channel
uh if you follow my main channel you
might know a little bit more
but you won't probably get his link on
this channel because um
this is a tech channel not a gaming
channel uh anyway
cisco ip phone very very useful for a
free pbx that's the pbx i'm running by
the way
uh it's for honestly for
about 30 pounds this device here
it's really really good for what you
expect
uh considering that it did not even come
with a power supply
and the box was a bit ripped up uh which
i've actually got somewhere
um it's honestly not too shabby
uh and if you people are interested
because i know some of you will be
but i'm just going to play it now
i'm going to hate myself for doing this
but here if you wanted it
here clear the ring tones
for those of you who want it
and um in case of you guys are wondering
how um
i got this thing to work with uh sip
there is a tutorial done by another
youtube channel uh
this guy's excellent i have no idea who
he is but uh just some bloke i saw on
the internet who made this video
and uh it's very very good very concise
uh guide i might make one myself um but
credit to the original guy who actually
did it so if you want
if you want to give credit don't give it
to me give it to him um
excellent guy and
i don't know what to say other than just
it's a phone
but oh here's another thing
here's my support line which you
actually can't dial them
but um if you guys want to do see if you
guys want to see it
here it is and here's a cisco whole
museum
please press one to continue thank you
for calling nti
someone will be with you very shortly
here we go anyone you you're an absolute
og if you recognize this tune
your call is now first in line and will
be answered by the
uh nti by the way stands for taking
flight uh
as with with the new logo which you can
now see down there
uh yep new new logo guys um
but that's pretty much it for the cisco
eye
iphone so once again 30 pounds not
not too shabby um but
that's that that's honestly it that's
all i can really say for this
and um next time i'll see if i can try
and do a guide for this
um but i guess that's pretty much it
uh so this has been a lenovo tech info
and this has been the cisco iphone from
whenever and thanks very much for
watching
